Hunter

I walk a line between two worlds and protect all that I can. Every death I can't prevent eats at me and I can't sleep. I still see the werewolf dead at my feet when I close my eyes. Why couldn't I save them too?
Hunter Origins
Hunters have messy and misunderstood origins as well as existence.
Most believe hunters become hunters as they survived a supernatural attack of some sort and want to kill or harm supernatural beings so it doesn't happen to someone else. For some, especially hunters that weren't born into a hunter family, this is an accurate description of their origin.
The true origin of hunters is older than that though. Born hunters from hunter lines are a form of mage that has a particular set of skills. These skills made them apt candidates to fight against supernatural creatures. As time progressed and through much negotiation these hunters became a sort of Supernatural police in which is their true capacity today.
What is a hunter?
There are two forms of hunters: Rogue Hunters and Natural Hunters.
Rogue Hunters are hunters that have began to hunt supernatural creatures to harm or kill them. Normally as a means of revenge due to a supernatural being harming them or someone they cared about. These rogue hunters are the ones that are most supernatural creatures associate with the term hunter even though they are not the norm and often removed by natural hunters.
Natural hunters are normally born into a hunter family, most with a few innate hunter abilities, that are raised and trained to protect people but not interfere with supernatural creatures. They are a form of supernatural police that keep supernatural creatures hidden and safe while also removing rogue elements that threaten the supernatural world or humans in general. It is more common for them to be defending humans than supernatural creatures due to the rareness that a supernatural creature would need to be defended from a hunter.
How to become a Hunter
Hunters are either born or created through circumstance. Those that are created through circumstance do not often last long without being brought into the fold of Natural Hunters and taught the proper way to be a hunter.
Born
As it states, a Born Hunter is a Natural Hunter born into a hunter family. They are taught the hunter laws and rules from a young age and brought up to uphold them. They keep both humans and supernatural creatures safe by the laws that they uphold. Most hunters are born with abilities but not all and some have more abilities than others.
Created
Created Hunters are often born from circumstance. These hunters are often survivors of supernatural attacks to which they seek revenge on supernatural creatures. These hunters do not have special abilities but are often resourceful and start to figure out things and people to talk to. These sorts of hunters rely on tricks, potions and magical weapons to help them achieve their goals.
Created hunters do not know the rules set forth between hunters and supernatural creatures and often break those laws deeming them a "rogue hunter". These hunters are often being hunted by Natural Hunters
Hunter Abilities
Most born hunters have 1-2 of these abilities. Some Hunter lines are more powerful and can have more (these hunters are likely from one of the council families below) and if you want more than 2 please purchase them from the gem shop. Created hunters do not have these abilities and must rely on other means.
All born hunters are faster, stronger, heal 3x faster and are more durable than that of humans. They are not quite as strong as most supernatural creatures but it does make it more of a fair fight.
Second Sight - Ability to identify what creatures are supernatural (this does not tell the hunter what sort of supernatural creature they are).
Illuminate - Better than second sight, this identifies what sort of supernatural the hunter is dealing with.
Hide - Ability to blend in with normal humans.
Radiate - Ability to mask people around the hunter so that the supernatural creature must focus on the hunter directly.
Blaze - Makes a light source harmful to a supernatural creature.
Ravage - An aura that harms supernatural creatures and people alike. Normally makes regular humans vomit and hallucinate. Makes supernaturals sick and sometimes feel like their skin is burning.
Donate - The ability to lend hunter abilities to another person though it dulls its use for the hunter lending it. This is particularly helpful when you have a created hunter on your team.
Pinpoint - Ability to see and know weaknesses of supernatural opponents.
Ward - An aura that deters weak willed supernatural creatures that the hunter doesn't want around.
Surge - Ability to increase a specific skill like speed, strength or agility for a short duration (think of it like an adrenaline rush).
Trail - Ability to mark a target or object with a simple touch leaving a trail for the hunter to follow. Is not affected by weather like scent trails.
Hierarchy
High Council - Consists of each of the families heads. They create and enforce the hunter laws and liaise with supernaturals to keep the peace.
Local council - With the world being vast each area has a local council that reports to the high council. For the most part is is an established family in the state that create a local council that report to the high council as needed. For Alaska that family is the Gregory family headed by Debra and David.
Hunters - These are just the day to day hunters. Most of them have day jobs and are called on to investigate or complete jobs as needed by the the local council. Most jobs are posted on a website for only validated hunters.

** What does it mean to adopt a council family? Council families are intended to give a deeper connection with your hunter to other hunters. These families are known to interact regularly, know of each other and know the laid out laws. Think of them as renowned within the Hunter community. There are
A LOT more families than the ones listed above that can be integrated onto the site.
Adopting a council family gives you an opportunity to have an influential opinion on the matters of potential hunter site plots primarily indicated by the opinion of the family created. While all hunters are to abide by the rules this doesn't necessarily mean that all of the families have or do agree with them. 😉 -
** What are Family Heads and how do they relate to the story? Family heads in the context of hunters are the leaders/Patrons/Matrons of their family. They are often, but not always, some of the oldest in the family and the mantle is normally passed to direct descendants though can be passed to anyone in the family.
These are the end of the line when it comes to going up the hunter chain.
As they relate to the story, they are limited in capacity. If a site plot point requires the intervention of the over-arching family heads you will be asked what your family heads would say so that any information on reactions can be accurately depicted in the site plot.
Family heads are often not practicing hunters and have nothing to do with local council unless local council raises it to them. - ** If the Gregory family is the local council and I have a council family what does that mean? This area this site operates under, is under the jurisdiction of the Gregory Family, namely David and Debra Gregory, meaning that all things in the state of Alaska are run by them when it comes to hunter matters. Other hunter families can be here but will report to Debra and David in the matters of Hunter business including parts of other council families. Families are large and can span lots of places.
